Alice Neel Details

Gathers portraits, still lifes, and nudes by the American painter and includes her comments on her works

Reviews

Of all the books with Alice Neel and her work as the subject, this is the best. It's got a generous amount of paintings and drawings to feast on, and it also includes quite a lot of Alice's writings and verbatim quotes from interviews. Patricia Hill did an excellent job with this, and I wish it were back in print. It should be a resource in every artists library. There is a book with the same visual content and a bunch of interviews with contemporaries. It's just not the same without Alice there to speak for herself. She was more than an artist, she was an observer of life, a thinker, a poet. She was one of us--trapped in life's imperfection, and instead of glossing it over, finding the beauty there.
